Samsung sells over 50 million touchFLO mobiles and Celluloco.com's S5233 is the top seller on their list!

Despite the recession, it's been a good year for Samsung, with increasing sales and market share, and it's been a good year for their touch phone division. Today Samsung announced that they've sold a total of 50 million touch phones - most of which sold this year.

Here's the breakdown. 10 million of those touch handsets are Samsung S5230 Star, which has only been out since May. This is quite as much as Samsung predicted when the Star reached the 5 million sales mark in August. It is still the fastest selling Samsung handset to date.

The number two spot is held by the Samsung F480 aka Tocco with 9 million units sold. This one got re-released a few times, for example the Rockstar and La Fleur editions, and even has a Hugo Boss edition. It's updated version is called F480i and it packs pretty much the latest Samsung TouchWiz interface.

The Samsung S3650 Corby despite being released only a couple of months ago has already scored 3 million phones sold.

The total comes up to 50 million touch phones sold, 40 million of which were sold this year alone (till the end of November). Compared with the 10 million last year, that's a quadruple increase. The percentage that touch phones make up of all Samsung phones sold also increased four times - from 5% to 20%.

Geographically, the breakdown goes like this - 19 million units in Europe, 6.3 million in the US, 3.4 million in China and 3 million in South Korea.

Samsung has set a goal of 200 million phones for 2009 and they are on track to overshoot that target. For now, their proprietary OS and TouchWiz combo enjoy a lot of popularity, but Samsung are getting ready to release a brand new OS, Bada OS, which promises a "next generation UI". Not many details about it are available, but the SDK should be released on the 8th December and then we'll know more.

Well, well, if it isn't the year of the affordable touchscreen bar - the Samsung S5230 Star sold over 5 million units since its introduction in May. And Samsung expect that number to reach 10 million by November.

For those of you who are wondering just how cool this mobile is, come to Celluloco.com and see the dedicated page we have on the Samsung Star where you can devour live pics and videos of this mobile wonder.

Ambitious? Definitely! But the S5230 Star was the fastest Samsung handset in reaching the 5 million mark and if you look at the numbers of units sold month per month - 10 million seems entirely within reach.

In its premiere month of May the Star sold 700 thousand units, 900 thousand the next month and the numbers for July and August were nearly double that - 1.6 and 1.8 million respectively. The Star's rival, the LG Cookie, also reached the 5-million milestone in July but it had a head start of several months. It too is foreseen by its creators to reach 10 million sales soon.

Europe is the biggest importer of the Samsung Star, with more than half of the units sold there (2.8 million). It topped the sales lists in France, the UK, the Netherlands and Italy.

It seems that the Samsung S5230 Star has the right formula for success - light on the cost and heavy on the features. It offers a 3" WQVGA touchscreen with Samsung's widget-enabled TouchWiz and a 3 megapixel camera with smile detection. It can handle microSD cards up to 16GB and with DNSe technology it's a music player in its own right. The document viewer doesn't hurt either.

We are not quite fans of the design but those new optional colors seem to liven up things around that Star - hit the source link below to check out the new paintjobs.

Samsung announce S5600 and S5230 Full Touch Mobiles are Here for Pre-Order

Samsung announced two new additions in their full touch lineup - Samsung S5600 and S5230 phones. They are both running on the latest TouchWiz UI and have large touch screen displays but only midrange feature sets. The midrange S5600 is quad-band GSM/EDGE that also offers fast data transfers via dual-band HSDPA 7.2 Mbps. Bluetooth v2.1 with A2DP and USB v2.0 are on board; sadly there is no Wi-Fi here. Samsung S5600 has only 80MB of built-in memory, but it's expandable via microSD card slot.S5600 boasts a 2.8" 16M TFT display with 240 x 320 pixels resolution, which takes advantage of the built-in accelerometer sensor. On its back it features 3.2 MP camera with LED flash that comes with smile detection.Samsung S5600 is expected to hit the European market in May 2009, but there is no word on its price.

Samsung S5600 has already leaked some fifteen days ago with several photos and basic information. It is aimed at the style but budget conscious users with its relatively slim and compact design.

Samsung are pioneering the Gesture Lock feature on both the S5600 and S5230. It enables users to simultaneously unlock the phone and open a menu item just by drawing an alphabet letter on the unlock screen. Users can assign various actions to any of the alphabet letters from A to Z.

Samsung S5230 is even more impressive from the S5600, because it is only 11.9mm thin but sports a larger 3" 256K TFT display with WQVGA (240 x 400 pixels) resolution.

Unfortunately, the added features come at the expense of 3G networking. The Samsung S5230 is GPRS/EDGE-only. That makes it a direct competitor to the popular LG Cookie.
