The first flip phone of BlackBerry, RIM 8220 is now available at Celluloco.com

The BlackBerry announced the availability of their first clamshell designed phone RIM BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220. It comes in black or red colors and measures 3.9 inches high by 1.9 inches wide by 0.6 inch deep and weighs 3.5 ounces. You will not find anything new in design; it’s just like the old fashioned flip phone that features a 128x160 pixel external display and front-facing 2 megapixel camera with flash and video-recording capabilities, while you get a 240x320 pixel TFT display on the inside. The BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220 also comes equipped with SureType keyboard (groan) and trackball navigator.

The quad-band Pearl Flip 8220 also offers a 3.5mm headphone jack, external microSD expansion slot, smart dialing, speakerphone, and background-noise cancellation. Wireless features include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP support. Unfortunately, there’s no GPS, but the BlackBerry Maps application is on board to provide you with maps and text-based directions. The media player provides you to enjoy MP3, WMA, AAC, MPEG4, WMV, and other music and video formats files.

O2 has announced that the BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220 smartphone is now available online at www.o2.co.uk and in O2 retail stores. The BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220 also available at T-Mobile.

This year RIM launched its first touch-screen BlackBerry, the RIM BlackBerry Storm. Along with this release, RIM also debuted its first clamshell handset, the RIM BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220. The Flip may not be as popular as the Bold or the Storm, but it can definitely hold its own. Plus its an attractive phone for users more attracted to clamshell designs.
